Battalion was an Army Reserve unit formed in 1949 and assigned the lineage of the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion since there were no more tank destroyer outfits by then. After inactivating and sitting in a file cabinet as a mothballed lineage, it was repurposed as the 61st Cavalry in 2004 and provided lineage to the 4th Brigade recon squadrons in both the 101st and 4th Divisions VERY RARE TO FIND.
