Description: A set of Ross 10 x 70 Captains Sight binoculars made for large Naval Vessels of the Royal Australian Navy. N 2906 and dated 1940. According to the militaria collector I obtained them from, they came from the estate of a R. The collector could not recall his name, but he served on HMAS Hobart in Vietnam.
In 1968 the Hobart was struck by US friendly fire resulting in 3 Australian deaths. N serviceman obtained the binoculars during a cleanout of the R.N stores in the 1970s. Measurements: Binoculars measure 33.5 x 22 x 9 cm (front elements are 9 cm in diameter). The box measures 43.5 x 25 x 15 cm. Weight: Binoculars weigh 3964 g and the box weighs 3225 g. The total weight is 7.2 kg.
