This is quite an unusual Czech VZ 24 short style with a sawback blade Mauser Bayonet & Scabbard. The VZ24's were made in the interwar period by Ceskoslovenska Zbrojovka a. Brno and were used after WW1.
Designed for Trench Warfare this knife bayonet was designed for use on the 8 mm. The VZ-24 was the standard-issue bayonet for the Czech Army with the reversed blade edge, but they were also exported during the 1920s through to the 1930s.
These bayonets can be found with both inverted and conventional blade profiles. Modified VZ24 bayonets were used extensively by Germany during the Second World War.
A Large number of these bayonets were captured at the beginning of WWII and had their muzzle rings removed, to varying degrees - some have large/big ears remaining from the partial removal of the muzzle ring. In this example, an earlier German Mauser sawback blade has been added. With the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy at the end of World War I, the independent country of Czechoslovakia was formed. Although Czechoslovakia was the only central European country to remain a parliamentary democracy during the entire interwar period 1918 to 1938, it faced problems with ethnic minorities such as Hungarians, Poles, and Sudeten Germans, the most important of which was the country's large German population. With Adolf Hitler's rise in Nazi Germany in 1933 and after Hitler's acquisition of Austria, Czechoslovakia was to become Hitler's next target.
The German occupation of Czechoslovakia took place in 1938 beginning with the German annexation of Czechoslovakia's border regions known collectively as the Sudetenland, under terms outlined by the Munich Agreement. The occupation ended in 1945 with the surrender of Germany following WWII. This has an all-metal beaked Pommel with rounded end housing and T-O attachment slot.
