Rare Wooden Pilot's Rear Control Stick. As used during WWII in the early models of the North American Aviation SNJ and AT-6C Aircraft. During WWII these Pilot's Control Sticks were made out of wood because of the shortages of aluminum. The socket that the wood stick goes into is made of aluminum. These types of wooden sticks were later replaced with aluminum sticks.
The first three photos are of the stick that is listed. It has not been sanded or varnished and is in its natural patina and a little dirty. The sixth photo (DISPLAY CASE IS NOT PART OF LISTING) shows a similar SNJ / AT-6C wooden stick in a display case with other WWII era aircraft collectible memorabilia items. The Stick in the display case was sanded and varnished and the grip area was painted black. NOTE: the display case and other items in it are NOT part of this lot. It is only to show what you can do to display the control stick. Add your other WWII Aviation memorabilia to the Stick and make your own display. I do have some of the other items shown in the display case listed in other listings.
