RARE VINTAGE, WW2 U. S. Navy Aerial Bomb/Torpedo Sight WOLLENSAK OPT CO

It is marked as: U. Telescope Mark 89 Model O Wt. Navy gray in color and approx. 18" long and has a diameter of 2 1/4", has a rubber eyepiece on one end and a forward looking sighting reticle on the other end.

Not being familiar with such items, I would say it looks as if it were to be installed in the aircraft floor so that the pilot/bombadier could look into it and use the sight reticle to determine bomb/torpedo release. The reticle itself has a cross in the center with 3 circles marked "50", "100", and "200".

Optics are nice and clear with sharp reticle markings. I do not know why it is labeled as a telescope since the optics have no magnification. I would say it is from WW2 since it is marked U. Navy Bureau of Ordinance, a group that was renamed Bureau of Naval Weapons after WW2.

It is marked as in the picture provided. It also has a large screw marked "Reticle Illum" on the barrel of the body that looks as if it was supposed to be screwed out and some sort of illuminating plug-in attached. It also has a smaller screw marked "Air Outlet" on the eyepiece end. If you have any questions or need further pics, please let me know.

This is a really unique and nice piece of American Naval history, no telling how many eyes looked through this instrument in anticipation of releasing a bomb or torpedo.
