WWII German ACTUAL BATTLEFIELD SHRAPNEL SOUVENIR Trench Art Letter Opener, "BELGIUM 1945". Very unusual and rare German ACTUAL BATTLEFIELD SHRAPNEL trench art letter opener. Made in Belgium as a souvenir and consists of a large piece of EXPLODED IRON SHELL SHRAPNEL. One end is the chunk of exploded, expanded shell shrapnel as found and the opposite end has been machined into the letter opener as shown. Both sides sharpened and the words engraved. GREAT BATTLEFIELD COMBAT SOUVENIR PIECE OF SHELL SHRAPNEL picked up. Hand engraved on the blade is "Souvenir of Belgium, 1945". PROBABLY FROM COMBAT DURING THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE IN THE ARDENNES IN BELGIUM as that was the only significant fighting there at that time. Very rare to find this type of trench art, especially with the battle identification,, and especially with such a particularly nice history.

A NASTY PIECE OF IRON THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FLYING THROUGH THE AIR. AND A REAL COMBAT ITEM FROM THAT FAMOUS CAMPAIGN. Again, it is long and measures about 6. " long x 1 1/4" wide.

The natural "handle" end has a nice original expanded look to it. THIS IS A VERY NICE, VERY RARE WWII GERMAN Battlefield Souvenir Bringback item. HAS A GREAT BACKGROUND HISTORY & USE.
