Very Rare, Longines Vintage Watch, R. 10.68N, Patina, Original Band.

Totally unpolished with original brushed finish sides, brushed lug tops, and high polish stepped bezel. Longines Archives identifies this exact watch per my request as a wristwatch in stainless steel bearing the reference 5192 and order number 22628. It is fitted with a Longines manually wound mechanical movement, caliber 10.68N.

It was invoiced on 9 June 1944 to the company Casullo, which was at that time their agent for Panama. I don't say rare often but this is truly rare. This watch most closely resembles the recently reissued Military watch styled after the original Marine Nationale reference 5774.

So I assume what we have here is potentially a civil military version of the 5774 especially given the blue steel solid leaf style hands. As for the rare claim I can say that this is the only example of this reference I have seen and I have searched for a very long time.

The movement is most often seen in tre tacche cases and the cal. 10.68n in gold alloy is also rare and was only found in early non Weems watches and there again most are silver tone. The blue steel leaf hand set is also very uncommon on any Longines military style watch. 10.68 = (10L) has a bimetallic screw balance, Breguet hairspring. This watch was made available in Panama during the American occupation of the Panama canal during world War II and so was likely owned by US military personnel.

A cool fact, Longines actually hand sprinkles black paint on their new military watch dials to mimic the natural patina on this example. You'd be hard pressed to find a better example yet alone another example. The item "Rare WWII Longines Vintage Watch, R.
