UNIQUE & SUPER RARE WWII COLLINS NO. This is a Collins No. 18 fighting knife, or "little machete" as the Collins Company called the No.

18's, and it is both unique and super rare. First, it was made in 1942, after the U. Entered WWII, and is either: (1) one of the very few No. 18's that Collins manufactured for the U.

Marine Corps' 2nd Raider Battalion - the so-called "Gung Ho" knives - in the summer of 1942. Since this knife has a yellow brass hilt and handle rivets (as opposed to reddish brass), it had to have been made in 1942, and since it has green cattle horn grip panels, it had to have been made before the order for the "Gung Ho" knives was completed in the summer of 1942 because the factory ran out of green cattle horn during the manufacture of that order and had to finish it with knives made with black plastic handles. Either way, it is super rare - especially in its near mint condition!

Further, this particular knife is unique in that it is the same Collins No. 18 knife pictured on page 109 of Michael W.

Silvey's famous book, KNIVES of the United States Military WORLD WAR II. (see, 1st photo, above), published in 1999. I have a signed copy of Silvey's book which I will include with the knife to its purchaser.

This is an opportunity for a discerning collector to acquire a truly unique and super rare knife.
