US WW2 Civilian Air Transport Command ATC Uniform Grouping Visor Paper Pin RARE

For sale here is a very rare US WW2 Civilian Air Transport Command Grouping. The group is attributed to Alexander G. Marra of Kansas City Missouri. It appears that he enlisted into the Army Air Corps served no active duty time and was discharged to the Air Transport Command as a Radio Operator. Lots of rare pieces in this group.

Marra was a large man for the period 6' 1/2 230 lbs, and the shirt and jacket are very large. The jacket is a 44R and the hat would appear to be a 7 3/8. There is a period plaque and several copies of interesting paperwork. Please see the pictures for full condition report. I do have more photos if necessary.

Please see the list below.. Large thin khaki Creighton Uniform shirt. Shirt has fancy buttons and is a large size.

It does show light wear and age. The tie is very thin and is tied in a short period style. It is not marked that i can see, and it does show use, age, and wear. Rare original Bastian Brothers Civilian Air Transport Command DI pin with functional roller lock pin back set up. The DI does have some enamel damage, and there is plenty of patina to the brass.

Papers(All Copies) to include an Honorable Discharge Separation Report(Please see photos for enlistment records), Honorable Discharge Certificate, Letter from the Army stating that he has been released from ATC duty and should contact the Selective Service Board, and a letter from Marra on Trancontinental Airlines letterhead stating that he was out of country for ATC and is now reporting for Selective Service. Plaque and stand from the previous owner of the group stating the details of the group. Beautiful Knox Crusher Style Visor Hat. The visor is complete back strap, semi flexible bill, and doeskin body. The cap has ATC side buttons and a two screw back ATC front badge.

The cap is purpose made with to metal grommets to hold the ATC badge, but still retains the central eagle grommet. The hat has a Dreyfuss and Sons of Dallas stamp in the leather, and the band is monogrammed AGM for Alexander G. The cap does have a small amount of damage to the left chin strap pull tab, and some cork loss under the bill. The cap doesn't appear to be size marked, but it fits just like a 7 3/8.

There is some very minor seam separation of the sweatband on the wearer's left side. This is a great looking hat, and the Monogram is the only direct tie in to Marra.

Huge size 44R ATC Dress Uniform Jacket. Remember that Marra was 230 lbs, and it would make sense that this belonged to him, but it is not named. The Class A Jacket is a standard chocolate elastique Regulation Army Officer's Uniform, but it does have black cuff braids that are made into the jacket. I have seen black braid on some of these jackets that is only about half length, but this braid goes all the way around and has not been messed with. It has always been black, and it has always been on the jacket.

The jacket is also complete with correct original Superior Quality Brand ATC Buttons. All of these buttons are matched and all are present. The jacket is nice inside, but the tag shows some wear, and all that i can make out is that it is a size 44R and the last digit of the date is illegible, but i would guess it to be a 1944 or 1945 dated jacket.

The jacket is complete with belt. There is an original and scarce Bronze ATC Radio Operator Wing on the left breast. This wing is highly detailed, has nice patina, and has a functional roller lock pin back mechanism.

You can tell from the patina to the pin that this has been on the jacket for a long time. The wing, as is almost always the case, is not maker marked in any way. This jacket, shirt, tie, hat combo make for an impressive display, but you may want to pad your mannequin as it is quite large. This is a rare opportunity to own an attributed Civilian ATC Grouping.

The group is worthy of more research, and will be the centerpiece of many collections. These just don't come around very often.
