VERY RARE WW2 70th Div MAJORS PAINTED M1 HELMET WithORIG ARTILLERY CAMO NETTING

UPDATED SINCE HELMET WAS 1st LISTED! I recently ended this helmet with the suggestion of a ebayer that I should try to go trace back the house I got it from in Portland to give prospective buyers all the clues to the original owner possible.

So off to filthy Portland I go and I found the street I believe the collector lived on, but houses did not look like they did 30 years ago and I had no luck and not sure of the street being correct! BUT I did get the mans name (collector I got the helmet from) but was not about to go into downtown Portland to check hall of records.

This is a fantastic original untouched WWII officers helmet with original artillery camo netting as was commonly worn by members of the 70th Infantry Division from Camp Adair Oregon. This helmet was found in the garage of a then late 40s! The helmet is just as it was found and untouched by him or me and the helmet was left by original owner upon the sale of the home at that time. The fellow I got it from was a long time military medal collector and had saved the helmet in his collection room just as he found it when he cleaned the garage of his (at that time) new home. It took me many years to get him to part with it and a cased WWI navy cross!!

and that was in the mid 1990s. I have not researched the initial and serial number on the chin strap but I have over the years of living here in Oregon seen countless original wartime photos of the soldiers and officers of the 70th Inf Division wearing exactly this pattern helmet netting and have seen two other matching examples of documented 70th helmets, one in collector and one in veteran hands. This is a salty and well kept helmet that has a steel lot number in the front brim and has welded fixed bails with early Kahki colored web chin strap and bronze/brass fittings to the chin strap. Liner is not rank marked or named but matches condition of helmet exactly and has clearly been together with the pot. I have included a copy of some pictures in the 70th Div magazine the "trailblazer" and one clearly shows medic's wearing helmets with this exactly style of artillery netted helmets.

If you do more photo research you will find these were VERY common in this unit and all units within the division had them. This is a classic and RARE helmet and you see just as it has been since WWII. Over 100,000,000 served.
